nbn New Developments Charge

If you are moving into a newly built home, you may encounter a one-time fee known as the nbn New Development Charge. This charge, sometimes called the End-User Contribution (EUC), is applied by NBN Co. to help recover the costs associated with deploying new nbn infrastructure in newly developed areas.

What is the nbn New Developments Charge?

The nbn New Developments Charge is a one-time fee levied on premises in new developments that require the installation of new nbn infrastructure for the first time. This fee contributes to the cost of extending the nbn access network, such as laying fibre or installing fixed wireless equipment.

Sometimes, developers can opt for nbn pre-installation, which means the nbn supplied equipment can already be installed, but the New Developments Charge may still apply.

The charge is currently $300 (including GST).

Who Pays the Charge?

The first customer who signs up for an nbn connection at a newly developed premises will be charged the fee.

When Does the Charge Apply?

The nbn New Development Charge generally applies to properties in areas classified as “new developments” where nbn infrastructure was not previously available. This can include:

  • Newly constructed homes in new housing estates.
